Deciding Which House Design is Right For You

There are a lot of choices when deciding which home plan is right for you and your family and honestly, it can become overwhelming. Some things to consider are size, accessibility, how long you plan to live in your home, will your family be growing or downsizing in the near future, do you like to entertain.

Shingles vs. Metal Roofing

We are often asked by customers whether it is better to have a shingled roof or a metal roof on their house?

Winton supplies both a shingled roof option and two metal roof options. The shingled roofs, an architectural shingle, uses metal valleys, continuous ridge ventilation and eave guard applied along heated eaves. The metal roofs have two specific profiles: exposed fasteners and hidden fasteners. Roof metal comes withcolor matched metal for all accessories, continuous ridge ventilation and a heat resistant eave membrane applied along heated eaves.

Choosing the Right Color Scheme for Your Home

This is a very common question many of our customers ask when trying to decide on colors for the exterior of their new home. With the amount of color choices now available for roofing, siding, soffit, fascia and trims, making what you feel is “the right choice” can become quite overwhelming.

While there is no rule of thumb when making color selections, a few questions should be asked which will help guide your decision making process. Some of these could include:

UNBC Wood Innovation Research Lab Wins Environmental Performance Award

Value Engineering

Value engineering is defined as performance divided by cost. If you maximize performance, or reduce cost, it increases value! This is the most important step in the planning of your new home.

A Paradigm Shift in New Home Construction

“Prefabricated” or “Factory Framed” homes have come a long way from the days of a Sears mail order home or a time when the word “prefabricated” may have elicited thoughts of an inferior structure. Gone is the misconception that prefabricated homes are cheaply made with limited design flexibility and finish options. Today’s prefabricated home is fully customizable with a vast array of finish options to make your home just that, your home.

WinWall Passive Panel

UNBC’s new Wood Innovation Research Lab gave our team an opportunity to embrace innovation and creativity. We were excited to be part of an energy efficient building within our local community of Prince George, British Columbia. Taking what is typically a floor truss and rotating to a thick exterior wall, our designers engaged out of the box thinking during this rewarding challenge. With the northern climate & Passive House energy standards in mind, our team engineered and manufactured 40 one-of-a-kind wall panels.

Winton Homes & Cottages - Some Assembly Required
