This is a very common question many of our customers ask when trying to decide on colours for the exterior of their new home. With the number of colour choices now available for roofing, siding, soffit, fascia and trims, making what you feel is “the right choice” can become quite overwhelming.
While there is no rule of thumb when making colour selections, here are a few things to consider which will help guide your decision-making process:
- What are some colour combinations that complement the style of my home?
- Do I want my home to “stand out in the crowd” or blend with the existing neighbourhood theme?
- Will I love the colour selection I make today, 10 years from now?
- What are the most popular colour combinations you see in newly built subdivisions?
A good place to start is deciding on the main colour of your home and narrowing down your colour selections from there. You may want to get an idea of what it would look like on your home before making your final decision and there are a few options to help with this. Many of our exterior finish suppliers offer a “visualizer” on their website to give customers a better idea of what a similar style of home may look like with various colour combinations. Once you have an idea of your colours, try to see samples of these colours in person because computer and mobile screens can render the colours differently from the actual colour.
If you follow any or all of the suggestions above, you can be confident that the choice you make will be an educated one.
